This morning in Church Collective Worship, Revd Sian shared with us all that we are still in the season of Trinity, and are continuing to look at kindness, and what this means. She asked the children if they could give some examples of kindness, and a number of children answered giving answers including helping people, playing with others, helping people when they fall, taking turns, loving each other.
We then heard the story of the Good Samaritan, which is from Luke 10:25-37
Jesus told a story. “A man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers who stripped him and beat him and left him half-dead. A Jewish priest was travelling the same way, but when he saw him, he crossed the road and walked on past. A Levite* also travelled past, saw him, crossed, and kept on going. But a Samaritan was also travelling on that road. When he saw the man, he felt sorry for him. So, he went to him, dressed his wounds with olive oil and wine, put him on his donkey and walking beside him, took him to an inn, where he looked after him. The next day, the Samaritan gave two silver coins to the innkeeper and said to him, "Take care of him. If you spend more, I will repay you when I return this way."
Then Jesus asked, "Now which of these three travellers was a good neighbour to the man who was attacked by the robbers?" The lawyer answered, "The one who stopped and helped him. Jesus replied, "Then go and behave the same way."
Revd Sian then shared a common phrase, which she advised many will have heard, which is "In a world where you can be anything, be kind", which emphasises the importance of choosing kindness as a fundamental value.
The CREW shared some wonderful prayers with us all this morning, followed by leading the singing of the Lord's Prayer. We then joined together to sing that beautiful hymn, 'He's got the whole world in His hands', before celebrating the birthdays of Oscar and Nova in FS2, Phoebe Y1, Seren Y2, Sum Chin Y5, and singing Happy Birthday the Jesus way. A lovely collective worship was enjoyed, and ended with years 1 and 2 singing 'Faith as small as a mustard seed' as the children left church.
