This week in Church Collective Worship we were learning about Hopes and Dreams, which is also one of our school Magnificent 7. Revd Dee shared the story of Jonah and the Whale. God loved Jonah as he was a good man, and God told him to go to a city called Nineveh. Jonah was to tell them God was going to destroy them all, because they were evil people. Jonah didn't want to go, so instead, he went on a ship to go somewhere else. A big storm blew in, and everyone else on the ship was afraid they would sink and die. Jonah said to them, 'throw me into the sea and the storm will stop'. They threw him in and the storm did indeed stop. Then a big whale came to swallow Jonah up. He stayed in the belly of the whale for 3 days and 3 days. During this time Jonah prayed to God, then the whale spat him out onto dry land. Following this, Jonah went to Nineveh as God wanted. Jonah realised he should have listened to God the first time he spoke to him. Revd Dee reflected on this and stated that with the strength and love of God, we can do anything.
Following the story, we had some beautiful prayers from Teddy, Henry and Frank, some of our year 6 CREW, followed by the Lord's Prayer. We then all joined together to sing our favourite hymn, 'Faith as small as a mustard seed' before celebrating the birthdays of Harrison in Y2, Harriette and Olivia in Y3, and Teddy in Y6, singing happy birthday the Jesus' way, before sharing in our final prayer and blessing.
