This week we talked about encouraging people and how it is important to be an ‘encourager’.

If we are struggling with schoolwork , if we are finding it difficult to do some of our lessons, we can feel discouraged and have a sad face. We all made a sad face ????. When we feel discouraged, we can feel like a deflated balloon. Revd Dee held up a deflated balloon which was all floppy and lifeless. When someone helps us with reading, maths, difficult lessons or cheers us on in races and sports and tells us we can do it then we are encouraged and filled with joy and confidence and can do things we didn’t believe we could do. Revd Dee then asked the children to encourage her to blow up the balloon ???? she found it difficult but with the children’s cheers she managed to blow up the balloon. We talked about St. Barnabas whose name means ‘Son of Encouragement’ and how he had courage to help others and how he encouraged others to do things that they felt they couldn’t do. The children dressed up as St Barnabas, the Holy Spirit, and the disciples. They acted out Barnabas encouraging the disciples when they felt sad and discouraged. We remembered how St. Barnabas encouraged people to have faith in God and how we should remember to be kind to each other, encourage each other and say thank you to our teachers and family who encourage and support us. Revd Dee reminded us how the church colour has now changed to green 'ordinary' time or growing time. We sang Faith as Small as a Mustard Seed.

The Crew led us in some amazing prayers, and we sang the Lord’s Prayer and had a blessing Some parents and grandparents attended and said they really enjoyed the story of Barnabas and the balloon illustration and that they felt ‘encouraged’ to share their faith too. Mrs Perry
