OUR WRTING AT ST. PATRICK’S

As with Reading, we see Writing as being an essential and lifelong skill. We give all pupils the opportunity to practise, develop and perfect their writing skills in all areas of the curriculum from the moment that your child arrives at St Patrick’s until the moment that they go on to begin their  secondary education.

Writing is taught in each class each day of the school week. Within Writing lessons, children will also develop their learning of Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS).

Our pupils are given the opportunity to become writers of an array of genres: recounts, poetry, diaries, letters, newspaper reports, explanation texts, information texts, balanced arguments and persuasive arguments: the list is endless!

We encourage all children to apply their writing skills to other areas of the curriculum. Each teacher carefully plans for Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) with fantastic writing taking place in Science, Maths, History, Geography and R.E.

Within each classroom, we have English Learning Walls which are updated regularly. These serve as a visual support for all learners in our school and reflect the current learning taking place in English.
